Former Apprentice Amy Siddons Celebrates Accounting Milestone

Just one year into joining the Total Hire and Sales team as an Accounts Assistant, Amy Siddons has gained her AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. We talked to Amy about learning on the job, gaining professional recognition and her love of bake offs!

Congratulations on your professional achievement! What is your qualification and where did you study?
Thank you! I studied at EMA Training to gain my AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.

How did you find being an apprentice at Total Hire and Sales?
I enjoyed it, I think it is a great way to learn. Having also been to university, I have definitely preferred the apprenticeship route.

I have found it easy in the classroom, as I can relate so much of my course to what I do in my job. This has meant I have gained a qualification while getting hands-on experience. The accounts team at work is brilliant, and everyone has taught me so much about life as well as work.

What has changed now that you are fully qualified?
Besides the obvious perk of more pay, I can now have professional recognition using the designated letters AATQB after my name, as well as the qualifications for the knowledge I have learned over the past year.

What does your day-to-day role include at Total Hire?
I process and file purchase invoices, generate and send out sales invoices, help to maintain general ledgers, assist with month-end and produce and distribute cheque payments.

Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship to other people?
Yes, absolutely. I have learned so much during my year here, and have been paid while doing so. I think it is a brilliant way to learn.

What have been the highlights during your training?
I was so happy to pass all my exams the first time around. When I found out the results, the accounts team threw me a mini celebration, which was really heart-warming.

We also do a regular bake off, which is always fun and yummy!

Any tips for anyone thinking about/starting an apprenticeship?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The only way to grow is to step out of your comfort zone, so push yourself, as hard as you can and the benefits will pay off.

What do you hope to do next in your career? Will you be doing any further qualifications?
I am keen to start my Level 4, but I want to take some time to focus on my personal life so I want to slow down at the moment and enjoy life.
