Getting to know… Anne Varney, Receptionist
As Total Hire and Sales’ Receptionist, Anne Varney is the essential first point of contact for customers. She tells us more about the variety within her role and why she enjoys helping people.
Anne has been with Total Hire and Sales for six years, based at the Derby central site.
Previously a catering assistant in a secondary school, Anne originally joined the hire firm as a cleaner, but her attention to detail and customer service potential was quickly recognised. Within a year, she was offered the role of Telephone Receptionist, a position that Anne accepted with reservations at first, as she felt she lacked the relevant industry experience, however, soon learnt on the job and gathered the knowledge she needed from within the team.
Anne is first point of contact for customers ringing into the dept. Her main responsibilities are answering the phone and helping to direct customers to the correct department while responding to any questions they may have. She also takes orders for plant and equipment hire over the phone and schedules them for delivery, as well as being responsible for distributing any incoming emails to relevant team members.
Any initial reservations Anne may have had about the role were unfounded as she enjoys her job and likes being part of the Total team, where everyone is friendly and helpful. She finds helping people rewarding and the fact that every day is different. As quite a quiet person, the job has also given Anne a bit more confidence.
When not at work, Anne enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren and going to Spain where they are building and renovating a house.
